home premium should be fine. ultimate is just a waste of money. check here.
if your coming from XP, don't worry almost all programs that run on XP will run on 7.
Also, i found an 5850 but its ~$500!

This is the wrong one right?
$500 seems ridiculous.
most stores should have them starting around $380 to $410.
What retailer do you use? Do they have a website and do they deliver?
i generally use MSY i don't think they deliver though.
I doubt my parents would want to drive out to any of those places so im just going to find a different retailer. Do you have any suggestions?
i believe you said you were from toowoomba.. And i don;t live anywhere near there, so i don;t know what to suggest, sorry.
How do i know if my motherboard is atx or micro atx?
Also, why is the PSU such high wattage? Shouldent 600-650W be enough?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't this be fine for 5k series?

I may be wrong, but really (in my opinion) the ONLY computer part that you can buy to 'future-proof" yourself is a power supply. If you buy a good one, it should last for ever (relatively speaking lol), so why not buy a few more watts for a few more dollars. To me it serves two purposes. one: If you add something different and it requires more power, you HAVE more power. Two: If you have a 450watt PSU and you are running it at capacity, it will wear out faster and run hotter than if you had a 750 pulling the same amount of power.
In this instance Hammer, i saw this, which is a 750Watt PSU (Thermaltake) for only 23 dollars more than the 450 you suggested. It's actually 2 dollars CHEAPER if you send in the rebate..........
I'd go with a 400CX if you're doing a 4850/5750, or a 550VX when going with anything higher-end. The only thing that a higher-end PSU gets you is the ability to throw a higher end video card in later.
Bubba, he's in AU afaik, so the prices are gonna be wonky. I think that Thermaltake is an unusually good deal, though, it doesn't look like crappy construction and it's a nice price.
"I loved the P182 so much that, when my wife's system was all noisy and needed all sorts of cleaning, I bought her one. Then, when I wanted a cat, I bought a P182. The P182 is not a cat per se, but it's still an excellent buy."
micro atx will genreally have only 2 ram slots and only 2 PCI or PCI-e slots. ATX motherboards can have up to seven PCI/PCI-e slots.
Ok, thanks guys! Does having a PSU with a higher wattage cost alot more in electricity? Do you have to pay for watts you arnt using? And as for MSY, do they have a real website? The one that katana supplied only shows coupons and store locations. I just want to compare prices amoung different retailers before i buy this.
