Default £500 budget pure gaming machine

so ive got some cash saved up for a new console (ps3) when a friend said why waste your money on a ps3 and spend it on a gaming computer which will be more powerfull.

so now ive decided to build a computer but i dont know what specs to go for so i need your help because i dont know what processors work with which mobos and wat wattage power i need.

i am only going to play games and maybe whatch the odd dvd every now and then so it will run faster so i was thinking about the core duo 2. (is that a good choice?) or on my budget could i go higher? because i dont know how much everything else will cost as i need a whole computer excluding the monitor

also i can put it all together although i dont own a soldering iron (if that isnt needed i am all sorted)

so to somerise i need to know what the best graphics card, cpu, fans, power units, harddrive, ram, discdrive, sound card and mother board to get that is good for gaming. o and will it all fit in any case or will i have to wait till i get the parts then shop around for a case.

cheers for any help

matt

Hi Matt

I would definately recommend looking at the new Q6600 cpu. These are a great chip for the money and a good basis for a gaming pc. Graphics card wise 8800GTS 320MB would be a good start.

I would recommend something like:-

Intel Q6600
Freezer 7 PRO or Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
ASUS P5K board
2GB Corsair 6400 DDR2 Memory
Samsung SATA2 hard disk - 500GB are great value at the moment
Samsung Sata dvd rewriter
Antec NSK4400 or Akasa Eclipse 62
Hiper 580W type M or Tagan 530W Min
8800GTS 320MB PCI-E Card
Stick with XP for now for best performance in games

You could start with a cheaper case yeah, if you want something flashy i would recommend something like this

You will kind anything sub £50quid with a psu wont have a very good psu which wont be good enough for a proper gaming pc.
