evenin all

One of my pc's is behaving odd. It has xp pro installed and has the intel D845GRG motherboard. Every time i plug anything into any of the 4 usb ports windows crashes back to the intel screen, and upon reboot i get the 'windows has just recovered from a serious error' message. i don't get any blue screen messages. I tried leaving a flash pen plugged in but windows would only get as far as the welcome screen and hang, pull the pen out and it continued to load up as normal.

I updated the usb port drivers with drivers downloaded direct from intels site but to no avail.

Ideas?

Download Drivermax and try and update your USB controller drivers, hopefully that will fix it

Thanks i'll try drivermax. The pc in question hasn't been on the net since a wipe and reinstall so has to be a driver issue somewhere. I plugged the printer into all usb ports, plus a scanner and it crashed, also two flash pens and the same thing happened. I shall report back.

Has this happened before? You can try to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them, reset BIOS to their default settings. Also, you might want to check with your motherboard's manufacture for any known problems with the mobo. Although the RAM might be working fine, make sure that the RAM you have installed is compatible with the motherboard.

I've only had the pc for a couple of weeks and it came with everything pre-installed (except the drivers i installed to try and cure the problem).

Right then update time. It now works with my printer and scanner, yet it still crashes every time i plug in my flash pen. The pen itself works in all the other 4 pc's in the house, so why would it crash one pc?

Connect your thumb drive to a computer that doesn't crash. Backup whatever you got on your thumb drive. Format your thumb drive and delete the autorun.ini file. If that doesn't work get another thumb drive from a family or friend and try it on your computer. Are you connecting your usb device on the back side of the computer only?

I tried a second pen and it crashed again. It's sorted now though, put the recovery disc in and put it back to new state and it works fine on anything i put in the usb ports.
