I recently built a system using an ASUS m3a78-em motherboard, an AMD Athlon 5600+ CPU and 4 gb of G.Skill DDRII 800 memory. The mobo uses onboard ATI Radeon HD 3200 GPU and a mouse has to connect via USB. I also use a Logitech Freedom wireless keyboard and mouse.
I could not be happier with this system except for one small annoyance. There are times while scrolling though e-mail (Thunderbird) lists or webpages when I lose control of the mouse. The pointer on the screen begins moving across a horizontal line on the screen whenever I move the mouse. It will open icons on the desktop or links on a webpage should the pointer pass over them. There is nothing I can do to change this behavior other than to restart the computer. I have read other postings here and other forums about video issues and have updated the drivers. I have run memtest386+ in case of bad memory but none is found. Any ideas, suggestions, etc.? I am at a loss for a cause. I have thought of installing a different video card but thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas before buying another card. Any ideas, suggestions, etc. will be very much appreciated.

I can't see how that would be the fault of the system instead of the mouse. Does it work fine on other systems?

Yes, it does. I have been using the same keyboard and mouse with another system through a KVM for years. This new system replaces a 9 year old system that was also on the KVM. I bounce between the two all the time with no problems until now with this new system.
I was thinking that maybe the Logitech Freedom KB/Mouse are so old that they may be having problems but I updated their drivers too. I am going to try a USB mouse on the new system and bypass the KVM to see what happens. Thanx for your reply. |

Could be some weird USB timeout setting on the motherboard. Using another USB mouse is a good try, see if that has the same problem, if so root around in the BIOS for USB-related settings.
Also try a different input like front panel or back panel if you're already using front panel.
