I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro and these devices are impossible to find drivers for. My laptop is an Advent 7111. There is an Audio Device on a High Definition audio bus and a Modem Device on a High Definition audio bus.As a result I have no audio on my computer. Please help!

Sounds like you need the sound card drivers.

Advent are made by PC World who are really great at supporting their products </sarcasm>

The link above looks like it will help you if not telephone PC World and get a phone number for advent, then get a driver CD direct.

Hi guys, Ive got kinda the same problem.. I have an acer 3690, and suddenly my sound stopped working. I wonder if it has to do with the modem on high definition audio bus, wich my computer doesnt seem to recognize, even after installing all the modem and audio drivers from acer's ftp site. I just wanna get my damn audio fixed...

Alright, I will explain my situation a bit further and update it. I found out that the modem on high definition audio bus was actually bluetooth. After installing bluetooth, in control panel I was able to at least use the sound options again, with bluetooth audio or bluetooth high definition audio. But I still didnt get any sound.. can someone help me?

Ill add to this thread with my recent problem.

I bought a 7.1 soundcard of sorts, installed it into my pc. Installed all the sound drivers for that soundcard NP. But then i got the "audio device on a high definition audio bus" marked out.
Now this is what i find odd. I dont have a " mixer " in windows and i cant hear any windows sounds, nor can i use ventrilo. BUT i have sound when i start a game. INGAME i got sound, but not at the intros.

I think i read hundreds of posts on how to fix this, and tried to download drivers left and right, installing reinstalling. Nothing has worked. Sofar i havent posted anywhere in hopes that i will find an answer from a previous poster. But no.

Im not even sure if a reinstall of windows to a more recent version would help. Id rather not, since i got 1TB of striped discs and would hate to lose all the info.

Any thoughts?

Well, I ended up finding the correct driver: it was my modem driver unfortunately, and for some reason the first time i tried it it didnt find it or something weird. I came to the conclusion that my soundcard was broken for my poor laptop, so I bought a new soundcard, external with usb. And now it all works! though it did cost me 30 euros..

It is definitely a MODEM or SOUND CARD driver issue.

What do you mean with that your driver is 'marked out'? Go to Control Panel, System, and at the Hardware tab go to the Device Manager. Find the audio device on high definition audio bus. Does it have a yellow exclamation mark or a red cross through it? In either case what I suggest you do is right-click on it and click update driver. Let the computer check windows update, just incase they have the driver for you, and when it lets you choose what to do, choose 'Install from a specific location'. Make sure 'Include this location in search' is checked, and click browse to choose the location for the driver. This should be on the cd of the soundcard, and otherwise you can google it on the web. Complete the procedure and everything should be fine. You might need to restart your computer, and make sure nothing is muted at the audio properties. Also make sure that the correct devices are selected when you go to control panel --> Sounds and Audio device --> Audio(tab)

Another thing you could do is to go to the Device manager, find the audio driver, right-click, then uninstall and restart your computer. When it finds the hardware press cancel. Now insert the disk for your audiodevice or just start it, and install the software for your device.

I can narrow that one down even more... It's a MODEM issue... or at least the modem driver. Acer (and probably others as well) got this weird thing going on where they run the modem functions over the sound bus... You need to have your modem drivers installed before the sound works.

I'v even came accross occasions where you had to install the drivers in a specific order; i.e. modem drivers first, then the sound drivers...
