Default Belkin Bluetooth Device

I have a bluetooth USB Adapter, which installed and worked perfectly fine on my other computer.

Now I've come to install it on my new computer, it will not recognise that there is a bluetooth device in the USB port. The bluetooth device does not automatically switch on and have the little green light like it used to either.

What's wrong? Help please!

I am using XP. My other computer also used XP and the bluetooth device worked perfectly fine on that one.

Did you install the bluetooth driver before inserting the dongle?

No. I waited until it prompted me to insert the dongle, and once I did, it did not recognise that the dongle was there so I put it in a different USB port and the same happened again. The green light on the dongle did not come on either when I plugged it in.

You said initially No, does that mean you did install the driver or not?

The installation window appeared, which installed drivers, shortcuts etc etc, then I got promted to insert the bluetooth dongle into the USB, I tried various USB ports and it said it was not recognised, so I had to carry on the installation without the bluetooth dongle in the USB port, even though it was clearly in the USB port.

I'm not being funny lolli pop but your confusing me as you say it is physically in the port but then it's not.
Completely uninstall the Bluetooth program you may have in Add/Remove.
Delete the reference in Device Manager and reboot.
On reboot just install the software without putting the dongle anywhere near the pc.
Once loaded try again.

No I'm not saying it wasn't in the port...

I'm saying, I did not put the dongle in the port when starting installation. Half way through the installation, I got a promt telling me to insert the dongle - which is when I inserted it. However, it did not recognise it, so I tried a different port and it did not recognise it again.

Do other devices such as a printer or ipod play the USB windows sound when you plug them into your USB ports?

If they don't it's the posts that are the problem, if other devices do play the USB sound then you have a faulty blue tooth dongle.

When you plug a device in it should make the sound regardless of drivers installed.

What do you mean, "make the sound"?

My scanner and other things work in the USB ports so it can't be them, but my bluetooth dongle can't be faulty as it works in the other computer.

When you plug in a USB device your computer will play a sound.

If it works in another PC it isn't faulty.

Does the bluetooth device show up in device manager?

Well if its installed properly it must be down to not setting up the included software correctly.

Didn't you say a few posts back it was not recognising the dongle? If it is recognising it now what is the problem?

A prime example of physically pluggin in hardware while the software is still installing are Printers.
Like I said before delete all references to the Bluetooth, reinstall the software, dont insert the dongle at any stage.

Reboot

Let the pc settle down and load all programs.

Try the dongle then.
