AMD has had fastest processors for the last few years. The Intel Core 2 and Xeon Woodcrest are now the fastest processors by far. For people buying a new machine now Intel is the best providing you have the budget for it.

My workstations still have plenty of AMD upgrade options they still offer the best processing power per pound for my budget. It would cost ?300 just for a new motherboard in my rendering workstation and I would have to replace the Processors with two Xeon Woodcrests that would cost ?1846 to upgrade beat the best AMD dual socket upgrade.

I'd have to agree, and I do run an Intel.

My brother tho' plays a lot of demanding games and says AMD are proven to be better at that.

Horses for courses I guess.

I hear all sorts of rumours the truth is AMD were running everything better than any intel or Mac. If I had to buy a new motherboard to upgrade to a new graphics card I would be buying the Intel Core 2 It's faster at everything. The new power macs have the new Xeons based on the Core 2. They have always said the macs were faster at arty stuff and video and now they get 4x faster upgrade so they can stop lieing.

I have an AMD 64 and I gotta say I always have and always will have AMD.

Benchmarks prove there the best for games and that's primarily what I use my machine for.

You are right CG man, just read a write up and Intel are now leading the pack with their Dual Core CPU's.

Shorter pipelines and 4mb cache

If you buy intel processors make sure you buy the Core 2 duo and not the Core duo. The Core 2 is the only Intel processor that can beat any of the AMD 64 and Opterons with 1Mb or above caches.
