Default Boot Up Problem. Suspect Hardware Fault

Hi, I'm new here and would appreciate some help.

Having sent my system back to Mesh UK late last year, 08, I was charged well over £250 for a repair that I believed should have been covered by my Gold (3 year) Guarantee. Several months on, I find the same issue has occurred again with the machine.

The PC, when switched-on starts its fan but will not boot any further? The monitor light and sound light are both working but the system refuses to go any further and the fan stays at full power.

I have only loaded a security suite and a game since the PC was returned to me and Windows XP Media Center is nearly virgin in its operation.

I was outraged at Mesh's charge for repair last year after always paying for the on-site warranty due to the fact I am registered blind and suffer from Spina Bifida Occulta. I now find the PC has broken down once more and I find this deplorable. They just reinstalled the operating system and declared nothing else was amiss.

Luckily, I do have a laptop too so I am not cut off from the world altogether but, seeing the PC has let me down once more I must say I find Mesh's level of technical service disgusting.

Not been able to go inside the case myself due to my visual impairment I am hoping someone here can help diagnose this problem so I can either get it repaired locally or take the issue up with Mesh Computers UK.

The PC boots up fine in the morning and I can, if required, leave it on all day without issue. If I turn it off it will not reboot until I switch it on again the net morning although, sometimes like today, it will not boot-up in the morning either.

The blue power light sometimes comes on and sometimes not. The fan starts up ok but does not quiet down if Windows does not start. I hope this makes sense?

I am guessing it could be one of the following but would value your input/advice:

Motherboard
Power Supply
Power Switch
Fan

Thanks very much for all who help.

My first thought would be a faulty PSU.
It could be an overheating issue, but if it stays on all day after initial boot up in the morning, this sounds unlikely.

Thanks for your swift reply Phil, I do appreciate that.

Are these hard to fit?

If I get it booted-up again, can you recommend any software that will test the PSU?

Thanks

Not particualrly hard to fit, but it's important to source a decent model.
Corsair PSUs are good and renowned for their reliability. Have a look here and scroll down to the Power Supply section.

There isn't any software that can test a PSU, although there are hardware testers available like this one . Having said that the best way to test a PSU is under load, which can be a bit tricky.

UPDATE: The PC has booted-up the last two days but went down again today midway through playing a game. Strange thing is, when I switch the power on now it comes on without pressing the power switch on the PC?

Todays Update: I downloaded a CPU heat meter today which showed 40c on bootup but, when I tried starting Crysis the PC just went off.

It runs old games like Wolfenstein all day but will not obviously handle heavy graphics games like Crysis?
