Default BSOD Rears it ugly head.

Ok, Its arrived, not on my computer but my father's.

It would appear to have a Stop Error. (0x0000007B) Its not allowing the computer to enter windows, have tried putting in the windows XP recovery disk and booting....nothing, not even letting me do that.

Must have a boot-disk virus i think, but without being able to get into windows and check the disk i have no idea how to tackle this.

Any suggestions?

Its an HP Compaq Laptop

(i hate laptops)

Thanks

I have come up with a slightly cunning plan. Can anyone tell me downloading a version of linux and burning it to a CD and booting it off that would work.

I just want to get on it to get absoloutely everything i want off it (only the crucial files were backed up).

Or will a boot disk error stop me getting any kind of OS up and running?

That should work.

Look for a Live version of Linux. If you can't find your HDD anywhere, run

mount

in a command window and see if it is mounted.
