Ok, so I have 1000 dollars to spend on a new computer. I would like to know what i should get to get the best bang for my buck. I know i would like an 8800 video card and 2gb ram. Also, I already have a Core2Duo processor and a monitor and mouse and keyboard.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Hi, so you could buy:

Video Card - 8800GT [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814130318] @269.99
PSU - Enermax Infinity 750W [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16817194021] @189.99
Hard-drive - 500GB [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16822152052] @104.99
RAM - Corsair 2GB 800MHZ [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16820145034] @87.00
DVD Drive - LiteOn [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16827106228] @27.99
MOBO - Asus P5E-VM [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16813131237] @134.99
Case - ThermalTake Armor [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16811133021] @149.99

Total 964.99 Dollars
But Toal = 834.99 Dollars {from Newegg} (after 130 Dollars in Mail-in rebate)

But all this is OK but still if you could just tell us what you would like to do with your PC, we could guide you better. This quated PC is for games mainly. So you have the key to choose. If this is the purpose for your PC, you could go for it and with the extra buck you have saved, you could just add more things such as RAM, Sound Card, etc...

Hope it helped.

Thanks so much for the quick reply, what you have there looks very good. And yes, this would be a pc for gaming. Also, the resolution i will be using is 1680x1050. I'm pretty sure i wont be needing to burn dvds, so i could go for a cheaper one.

Also, I'll be needing an OS, windows xp, so perhaps i could go a bit cheaper on the PSU and hard drive?

So any other possible suggestions for different CD burner, PSU and hard drive?

All of the other components look good.

Also, the CPU i have is Core2Duo e4400 2GHz which i might overclock to about 2.8 or around there. If the CPU is not overclocked will it hold back the system, and if i do want to overclock is there any special hardware i should be getting?

Hi, OK np, that's why we are here.

So:

PSU - ThermalTake 700W [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16817153039] @169.99
Hard-Drive - WD500GB [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E16822136110R] @93.49
DVD Drive - Asus [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E16827134013R] @8.99
Windows - XP Pro OEM [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16832116056] @89.99

So Total = 1004.48 Dollars
But Total = 864.48 Dollars after 140 mail-in rebate.

Hi, so overclocking is not a must. I myself have not ever overclocked. Having said that, you might want to overclock as you said but you would have to change the CPU cooler if you have the retail one and buy yourself a Zalman 9700NT.

Also, in order for you to overclock, you do not need additional hardware but a good Mobo in which case the one I told you about is not good (cos till then I did not know what you wanted). So have rechecked and found you this motherboard:

Asus 680i [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E16813131073R] @139.99

This will put you 5Dollars more, but you would have the capabilities to overclock easyily from the BIOS itself.

It will work fine but if I were you I would go for the mobo stated on my last reply due to the fact that you have mentioned that you would like to overclock and even if not, it is still better for gaming IMO.

Stay away from the Zalman.

It's not the best at stock speeds for cooling a cpu.

It's lousy for cooling an oc'd cpu.

Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro is the hsf for you. Very light, (doesn't exceed a mobo's design limits), very cheap (always good) and about the best hsf on the market today.
