Much. It's a vanilla (not factory oc'd) so you may be able to overlclock it yourself and squeeze out a few more fps if you need to down the line.

Also, because it's a vanilla, it's cheaper.

But, there's also this one that is just under a quid more with a 100mhz increase on the gpu speed.

The cooler is based upon the Zalman flower which is an awesome gpu hsf.

Alex, I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you on the graphics card. I'm gonna keep the 1GB as I'd rather pay the extra £50 for three times the memory and hopefully plenty of time before it needs replacing.

The PSU I'm undecided, I'd say it would be unlikly I'm going SLI at any time in the (near) future so I might or might not get your recommendation.

Cheers anyway

You would probably be better ploughing that £50 into another component, like a better PSU. But it is your choice.

The 1GB is not really future proofing, unless you intend to get a monstrous monitor in the future. And even then, the card is not really powerful enough to use all of that 1GB.

But, we can only make recommendations, and it is your choice.

I can think of nothing worse than a noisy PSU.

Dave,

It is better to have that extra power there if needed. My computer is powered by a 750W PSU - I'm never going to draw close to that, but it is nice knowing that the power is there if required.

Also, the PSU you have may be enough to RUN the card, but will it be enough to run it at it's optimal performance? If that extra power is there it can supply that extra juice needed to get the best out of your card.

Tom

Alex is correct. There is no reason to have 1GB on your graphics card - unless you're running 2560 x 1600, 512 is just fine.

The money could easily go into PSU, a 8400, or a 680i or P35 mobo.

Yea, I agree with alex and carbon, you don't need 1GB, 512meg is plenty for anything unless, like mentions, you are running games at insanly high resolutions.Personally I have a 8800GTX here waiting for the money for the rest of my build, and that has 768MB, and I won't need that much, however they was the only size GTX's came in so I had to stick with it.

Hi,

After not being here for some time I think I have a final rig.

EV Black Mid Tower Gaming Case with Massive 14cm Front Fan - No PSU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ AM2 - Retail with Fan
ASRock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 AMD 480X CrossFire Socket AM2 PCI-E ATX Motherboard
XpertVision nVidia GeForce 9600GT 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI/HDTV Out PCI-E, Retail
580W HiperPower HPU-4M580 Black SLi Ready 20+24Pins P8 Ready ATX2.2/BTX
Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 250GB 7200RPM SATAII 8Mb Cache, OEM
Plexus Wireless 54Mbps PCI Adapter
OcUK 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Genius NetScroll 100 PS/2 Stylish Optical Mouse
Genius Comfy KB-06X Beige PS/2 Keyboard
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition w/SP3
Hannspree XM New York 19" TFT Monitor
Samsung 16X DVD-ROM SATA Black, OEM

Although I may use a 3.0Ghz E8400 if the offer is still one when I come round to ordering.

Anyway, more to the point this PC above as you can see is going to have XP SP3 and the Laptop I plan to move some stuff from is Vista SP1. Now ifI use a male male USB 2.0 cable between the two will;

1. It work that simply?
2. Are the different OS's gonna be a problem?

Cheers

Dave

That PSU has pretty awful reviews now that I google it..I wouldn't be surprised if it blew up on you after a year or so.

I can imagine it in the disclaimer:

We accept no responsibility if your PSU blows up within in the next year or so.

Get an OCZ, Antec, Coolermaster or Corsair,

Hi Dave, I'm sorry (really) but you've gone backwards with your revised spec.

The X2 6000, whilst not being a bad chip, is more than ousted by Intel's offerings.

An E7200 (2.53ghz, 45nm, 3mb cache) is a much faster and cooler running cpu for only around a tenner extra.

The Hiper, well, despite reviews to the contrary I've built a number of systems using this psu and not one has failed. But they are a tad loud at peak and the efficiency isn't upto current market standards. You can do better.

Yup on the 9600.

Deskstar is a superb hdd, nice and fast but does run warm so ensure you have ample active cooling for it.

I see youv'e quoted 4gb ram for XP Home. This is a 32-bit o.s and will see a max of 3.1gb of the ram. Also, XP is nowhere near as resource hungry as Vista. 1gb ram is the sweetspot for XP, 2gb will more than suffice.

Q1: Yup, you're just transferring data files.
Q2: Nope.
