Ok i am looking into building my own computer to be used primarily for gaming...

I agree. At $220 the E8400 would change that from a nice system to a great one. Changing the mobo as well of course.

Independent survey by TDC Say AMD's are better for power gaming, and Intel's are best for extreme overclocking.

gahh ive heard so many good things about the amd chip....can anyone give auctual reasons other than personal opinion of why to choose intel over amd?
also do I really need a sound card...i never use sound anyways and i read somewhere most mobos have some sort of mini sound card that is usable if you dont really want to spend the extra cash on a real card....

More efficient architecture.
Better overclocking headroom
Better optimisation of pipeline length
They're not being bought out anytime soon (which has already started with AMD...)
Larger cache for encoding work
