Default Building a New Computer (Help)

hi everybody, im currently building a new computer with a very limited amount of harware knowledge, any help, comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, ill post what i plan on buying here, thx in advance :)

Motherboard - http://logicalplus.stores.yahoo.net/asa8denfslic.html

External Hard Drive - http://www.compuplus.com/i-LaCie-Big...2jlqxhzkwvs2x9

Liquid Cooling System - http://www.110220volts.com/Merchant2...uct_Code=TRIBE

Memory - http://www.directron.com/khx3200512.html

Network Card - http://www.eworldsale.com/killer-k1-...731_15450.html

Processor - http://www.buy.com/prod/amd-athlon-6...202999674.html

Cd Drive - http://www.buysellleasetrade.com/sto...q-p-50777.html

Video Card - http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop...ci_sku=7671026

I also am planning on buying a USB Hub, Speakers, Monitor, Keyboard, Headphones, Mouse, and of course a Chassis.

suggestions about things such as, if i should get more than 1, if you have a different item that would be most efficent, a cheaper place to aquire the item, ect ect

please note tht i am trying to put together a gaming computer that runs very efficently, and budget is not an issue and i would prefer a $500 Motherboard that is amazing to a $100 motherboard that works average (howver if u can save me a couple of dollers by directing me to a cheaper place that would be much appreciated) oh and also i live in the US and would prefer to buy from US rather than UK due to shipping costs)

:)

Default Building a New Computer (Help)

I am thinking of getting Edge 184-Pin PC3200 1GB DDR400 rather than the Kingston HyperX 512MB 64M x 64-Bit PC3200 400MHz CL2 184-Pin DIMM, Non-ECC, KHX3200A/512 however I am not sure if it will be compatable with the motherboard.

Default Building a New Computer (Help)

This is not a gaming computer. The socket is outdated and incompatible with the processor, the RAM is outdated (DDR1), the graphics card is too expensive (wait for the 9800GX2 or just buy a couple 8800GTs), liquid cooling will be impossible for a newbie to set up and unnecessary, you have no CD drive (only a hard drive), KillerNIC is....well..I don't want to be mean, but it is at best "useless", and . I also have no idea why you're not using NewEgg, essentially the place to go for US computer parts shopping.

Please, please, do some research. You're springing for wildly incompatible parts, overpriced and essentially useless budget traps like the Ultra and killerNIC, and are using a outdated socket on the motherboard and a outdated type of RAM. The only good thing I can say is that you managed to consult a forum before you tried to put this together..because it just plain wouldn't work.

I really can't advise you because with such a spread of parts I really have no idea what you're trying to build. Give me an idea of your budget and we can go from there.

EDIT: And to vk3fcll: I don't want to be hostile, but you should really read the original post carefully before replying. Had this guy bought these parts on your advice, he would be stuck with a ton of incompatible and outdated equipment from a variety of retailers that may not have reasonable return policies. Please understand: this is thousands of dollars of someone else's money.

The best of the best, eh?

Check this out (included a monitor, you can find your own and subtract the cost, but this one has good reviews).

I recommend waiting until the 9800GX2 comes out in Feb/March for the best graphics card money can buy, though, so that's not included in the list.

If this is too much, let me know and I can scale it back accordingly. This is very much bleeding edge (most of this stuff came out in the last few months) but will be an amazing computer for a very, very long time, and it's better to spend more and have it last longer.

oh and with http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822136011 u had it set to get 6 of them...wouldnt that be a bit excessive in space? it says its only 3.5" but the picture doesnt look like 3.5 inch =P and 900gb might be a bit excessive as well i will probably get only 2 to start and buy more when needed

ok after some more research, some looking at that link u gave me ive come up with this

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...ryWishList.asp

hopefully the link works right and i created it correctly...i just wanna run it by u so u can check it out (gonna run it by a few other sites as well for 2nd and 3rd opinion) if u could advise me in how many to get of which products that would be imensely helpful :) ive managed to chip $600 off the price u had before by eliminating some of the internal hard drives because i will not be needing that many

Oops, sorry. Yeah, 1 or 2 is fine for the Raptors, didn't mean to add so many :D. You don't want to downgrade the processor - Yorksfield is far, far superior.

The link won't work right, you have to save it to a wishlist, then click it and hit Share. Just list what you've changed from what I posted and I'll check it out that way.

Well, the Yorkfield is 45nm rather than 65nm. This means not only can be it be way faster, both at stock and overclocked (over 4ghz), but it is a lot cooler, and that will be a big help in this setup. It eats much less power, as well. In a lot of benchmarks, like those done by Tom's Hardware, it increases FPS by 30 over the most expensive Kentsfields, with best results on an overclock (which is why I suggested the case with a lot of fans). Don't forget that this will be excellent for other common work too, such as video encoding, ripping, and burning. If you're going to spend a lot on a processor, you might as well make it one that's really good.

The motherboard does not support a really high FSB, but that's okay. Right now most of the new chipset motherboards are extremely unstable, have a poor BIOS, and have tons of issues.

Looking at the list, the case seems really expensive, I've seen it for 50-70, that might be with promo codes though. You might want to subscribe to NewEgg's newsletter and wait a week or two to see if it goes down.

You don't really need the GTS over the GT, there's not a huge difference, and if you have the budget, why not SLI two GTs for a little bit more?

Dunno if you need the hub, it's got 6 ports.

There's a X-FI sound card for $86 with mail-in rebate, with free shipping here, if you're interested.

I think at any rate you're going to have the most powerful computer on these forums :)

Default Building a New Computer (Help)

the computer case is only $79.99 and free shipping after $40 main in rebate its not too expensive compared to the $50-$70 i seen

ill probably downgrade to the GT because its a bit cheaper...hows this 1 look? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130319

i will indeed upgrade to the yorksfield as u said

the hub is a mabey i use many USB slots at once to charge up my ipod, cell phone , ect and the 6 ports should be enough but more than likely my computer will be sitting on the ground under the desk while the monitor, mouse, ect will be on top of the desk, so i wanted to have the hub so i could make it more convenient for me to be able to plug it in without bending over =P and its only $16 ish so wshouldnt be too much however im still deciding

ill look into the sound card, i heard that some motherboards come with a sound card. i think the motherboard im getting comes with a sound card but im not totaly sure(Realtek ALC888 i think it is...may possibly something irrelevant i dont know =P) i will not be listening to music on my computer (lol thats what ipods are for) i do usualy speak over the internet through skype and such but i dont think having a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series sound card will be noticed very much against a regular sound card...i also play games with the mute button on...it may just be me but i think the repetitvive "pew pew pew" of guns sort of distracts me and eventualy gets annoying after 1-2 hours of play

Well, it depends on your speaker system really. X-Fis can really have a huge impact on sound, but if you have basic speakers you're unlikely to notice it, and onboard sound on that motherboard should be pretty good.

Video card looks fine, EVGA has a step up program which is nice.
