| I'm building a new computer using the money that I have saved up the past month. My budget is around $1800 and no higher than $2000. I've picked out most of the parts and will list them below. Any critique is welcome and appreciated! Computer Specs: Case: COOLER MASTER COSMOS Motherboard: Foxconn Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200 Power Supply: COOLER MASTER 1000w Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ RAM: Corsair Dominator 2GB Video Card: EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB Well, that's what I have picked out so far, but now I get to the part where I really need help from someone who is knowledgeable about Water Cooling. Since I'll be running a AMD Athlon 6400+ and eventually SLI the 8800GTX's I think water cooling would be the way to go. I have chosen a CPU Block, 8800 Block, pump, radiator and reservoir, but they are all subject to change so if you would like to recommend something better then please do! My main concerns are about leaking because a 6400+ and an 8800FTX are terrible things to waste. Ill show you what I have picked out so far for the Water Cooling loop. Fluid: Fluid XP Ultra (Supposed to be non-conductive in case of leaks) CPU Block: Swifttech Radiator: Danger Den OR Swifttech 8800 Block: Zalman Resivoir: Swifttech Pump: Swifttech So far that is all that I have chosen for the Water Cooling. I would truly appreciate any help with choosing ANY parts for this PC. If you have heard bad things about any of these parts please let me know. Feel free to critique, help, shoot me down, etc! Thanks in advance. |

| go for intel instead of amd as it will give you further upgradibility and overclocking options. get an intel motherboard with a 1333 fsb and sli so it will work with the quads and the extremes, also you will be able to buy another gtx card in the future and run the 2 in sli (together). you could also get 2 hard drives and run them in raid 0 as it will make your computers operation and loading times faster. i dont know if the 1066 ram will work in the amd motherboard but if you got an intel mb the ram will work well, however i would reccommend some ram that can be watercooled so you can add it to your water cooling loop and you will be able to overclock it further.

| Motherboard and CPU Like he said, get a Intel MB. Intel processors are way better then AMD. Furthermore I recommend you to buy a X38 board. Because your thinking about buying a high end 8800GTX. And you'll probably wanna upgrade that again in the future. Why? Because the futerous 9800GTX needs a PCI 2.0 Slot. And this is only integrated in the X38 boards as far as I know. Apart from that you should get a nice Core 2 duo processor. If you change your mind and wait for the 9800GTX to come out. You might take as well a Penryn Wolfsdale core 2 duo. These are the 8" series of the core 2 duo's. They will be much better then the current one's. Videocard Like I said, personally I should wait for the 9800GTX cards. They say the cards are way better then the 8800 Cards. So personally i would focuss myself on the 9800Cards. If you really want a high end videocard right now. Then do not take the 8800GTX. Instead take the 8800GT. The card is almost as good as the 8800GTX. But is just a few hundred bucks cheaper. I mean that litteraly. RAM Dominators are to expensive, and do not really do what you demand. Personally Id use a Crucial ballistix of 1066Mhz. If you like to, you might even watercool them. Since you can also watercool memory. Apart from that I see no reason to cool your memory. Since you will never overclock the memory over the 1066mhz. Exspecially not with the foxconn motherboard. And apart from that I doubt the ram should work on the foxconn. Just buy a X38 motherboard an buy some crucial or kingston memory sticks. Watercooling Are you sure you want to watercool? Im busy quite alot on the computer bussines. But I do mostly cool with a fan and heatsink cooler. And I overclock my processors by 50%. In my personall opinion you should only use watercooling if your really gonna test cpu's. And what's there limit. If your a real overclocker you should know what kind of things you should buy. Since you ask for advice I guess you never installed any watercooling in your life. Be mindfull about 3 things. 1:When using watercooling you should really want to make records and not only for system optimize. Since you coud also do that with a heatsink. 2:Its kinda expensive and you coud buy better components for the money you save when not buying a watercooling system. 3:If only one tiny little drip gets onto a circuit board or electronics. Its boom and your system should short-circuit and most of your components should be wasted. What im trying to say is that if you screw something up. Even if it is a tiny little thing. Then everything is screwed up. Personally I wouldnt start a watercooling in my system. But if you read and re-read manuals carefully on how to install a watercooling. Then you should have no problems. Furthermore, you shouldnt be worry about leaking. THe only matter is that you have to install it correctly. Last edited by ARMIGO : 16th Dec 2007 at 03:17 PM. |
