I'm due for a new PC and haven't been up to date with the current technologies since I built my last one (3 years ago). So I went and began looking at parts and tried to match compatibility and what not. Here is a list of what I am looking for, I would appreciate other peoples opinions though. My biggest concern is if some pieces aren't compatible, but from what I have read they all seem to be. This will be a gaming PC that I hope will last me at least another 3 years. CASE: $104.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 PSU: $229.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371012 MOBO: $219.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157129 CPU: $184.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018 RAM: $186.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...814&CatId=3361 HDD: $179.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136296 VGA: $299.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...958&CatId=1558 Total: US$1406.93 I also want to guard my new PC from being ruined in a thunderstorm (which happened to my current PC) so I am looking into a better surge protector, and even a UPS, but I am kind of clueless on these. If anyone has any suggestions for these I would also gladly listen.

I suggest you to go with an Overclocked 9600GT or get a 9600GT and OC it yourself. CPU looks great. Everything looks great if your looking to spend that much money. I don't see any problems with any of it. I do suggest getting a 250-500GB HDD instead of the VelociRaptor. Unless you have a few external HDDs than it's cool. Good build.

I have about 1TB of HDD's in my current PC that I will transfer into my new PC, that's the main reason I chose this MoBo because of the 6 SATA connectors. I'm not confident enough to overclock a new PC, too worried something will overheat and break. I found this video card which is pretty much identical just from another manufacturer, which do people think is better?

The MoBo links in my posts display different then there target, not sure why for any computer this is the motherboard I am currently interested in; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157129).

After looking at some 9600's, they appear to be considerably cheaper, is this a good one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143126

The above advice should be disregarded. The 9600GT is fine for a budget build, but this is not a budget build. Furthermore, the 8800GT can be purchased for slightly more.

Overall, you are spending a lot of money for not a lot of performance.

A 9800GX2 is largely worthless. What resolution are you running? If anything below a 24" monitor (1920x1200), get a 4850. Else, get a 4870.

The PSU is overkill. Get a Corsair 450W.

X38 is worthless as well, unless you are at a high resolution a single-card solution will be fine. Get a P45 motherboard.

The Velociraptor will show very little improvement over a standard two platter WD 640gb. So get that instead.

I suggest a Antec P180/P182 or Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 for the case.

That RAM will not physically fit in that motherboard. It's also an enormous ripoff. Get 4GB of standard DDR800.

This should save you $500 or more. In the future, please read the sticky.

I agree with Carbon, however there is one crucial thing yet to be said: That CPU is good, however it's OEM, meaning that it does not come with a fan, therefore you will need to purchase an aftermarket fan, I used to recomend the AC freezer 7 pro for non overclockers, but I think there is a better cooler for the same price on the blocks now, Carbon, which is it?

Xigmatek HDT-S1283. $20 or so, very nice upgrade over the AC7.
