| My computer is really slow and on investigating why, I found that I only have 256MB of RAM (I assume DRAM). I need to upgrade my RAM but considering pretty much all my hardware is 4+ years old, I realize that I'll most likely have to upgrade it all. I know next to nothing about computers and therefore I'm not sure what I need. I know that I'd like it to be fast because I'll want to use it for gaming. Apart from that I don't really have a specific requirement apart from it being easily upgradable in the future. I was thinking I would need: about 4GB of RAM (preferably SRAM), something close to the Intel Core i5, 500GB-1TB HD, (other hardware I don't know enough about to guess). Is the RAM and processor over the top? 1. Budget: How much money are you willing to spend on the new build? I would consider a wide price range. Though I don't need the best and fastest. 2. Brands: Are there any brands of components you want or don't want? Preferably well known and trusted brands. 3. Multitasking: Will you be multitasking with this computer and if so, how much? I'm not sure what multitasking is. 4. Gaming: Will you be gaming and if so, how much and how new are the games? Yes. I'd like to be able to play StarCraftII on it, which hasn't been released yet. 5. Calculations: Will you be doing any intense calculations or media encoding? I don't think so. 6. Overclocking: Do you plan on overclocking and if so, how much? I'm not sure what overclocking is. 7. Storage: How much storage will you need and what will you be storing? I think I'll probably only need 500GB (1TB at most). 8. Legacy Support: Will you need support for older hardware like parallel, serial, or PS/2 devices? I assume I'll have to upgrade pretty much all the hardware but if I can reuse something, I will. 9. Operating System: Do you want Windows XP or Vista, or Linux compatibility? I'll probably run XP on it but compatibility with Vista and Windows 7 would be ideal. 10. Case: Do you want help selecting a case and if so, how big do you want it? No. 11. Accessories: Do you want a keyboard, mouse, or other items included? No. 12. Recycled Components: Will you be reusing any components you already have? I assume I'll have to upgrade pretty much all the hardware but if I can reuse something, I will. 13. Monitor: If you want a monitor, what size do you want and should it be widescreen? I don't need a new monitor. 14. Stores: Do you have any online stores that you prefer to purchase from? No. 15. Location: What country do you live in? Australia. I would liked to have put more information about my computer in my profile however I'm not sure how to determine what hardware I use. I'd really appreciate any help. |

"I loved the P182 so much that, when my wife's system was all noisy and needed all sorts of cleaning, I bought her one. Then, when I wanted a cat, I bought a P182. The P182 is not a cat per se, but it's still an excellent buy." My System: 日夏子
