| I may be swinging in the dark, but I recently had a similar problem with the desktop version, a Dell Optiplex280. Seems the cd drive they put in was a nightmare and they had to come up with new drivers. Actually it was new firmware, I don't know enough to explain the difference. It took forever to find the update since it came out so long ago, but once I did every thing started working and the drive started working. Do you know how to find out what type exactly the cd drive is? |

| If you go on the Dell website, there is a section called "Downloads" somewhere, and if you input your product tag it will give you all the latest download available for your Dell - forgotton about that!

| Yes, I've updated it quite a few times over the past year in regards to drivers. I was planning on formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows 2K as I read somewhere on the net that occaisionally a glitch can occur and cause hardware components to stop working. |
