Default Change PIO to DMA in Device Manager

I did ask question only yesterday, but it appears the thread has disappeared and I need my memory jerked a bit.
I wish to delete the grey boxed PIO Mode under 'current transfer mode'. Do I delete/uninstall the 'Primary IDE Channel' under Device Manager, reboot and the PC will automatically re-install a default DMA in its place, or am I asking for problems doing that seeing as I am a real amatuer when it comes to computers.I desperately need my pc to speen up for its taking anything upto 5-10 mins for software to load up.
Chris.
