Default Cheap upgrade

OK, well as some of you probably know, I'm wanting to fully upgrade my PC, however I have decided to wait untill the new Intel proccesors come up in about december before I do so. However in the mean time, I was thinking of doing a cheap upgrade of motherboard, CPU, and GPU. I was thinking of getting the following:

Motherboard: P35 NEO-F, P35 NEO2-FR, or the P35 PLATINUM all by MSI (the platanum because dabs is currently selling a few from warrenty repair quite cheaply.

CPU: E2220

GPU: Gainward ATI 3850 512MB

I was going to overclock the CPU as much as possible (over 3GHz wanted) and would like a few questions answered:
1. Will it be able to go that high with the stock cooler, or if I should get an Arctic cooler 7 pro?
2. Does anyone have any recomendations for better components?3. Will there be a large increase in performace from my current system?
4. Does somoene know how easy it is to overclock with any of the motherboards?
5. Can someone either give me step by step instructions on how to overclock, or give me a link to a good guide? as I've never even tried to overclock before.

I'd get an Artic Freezer. Much better for serious overclocking and will keep the temps much lower.

I'd say the Gigabyte GA-P35 D3 thing (this one) was a much better overclocking board. Much more options.
Maybe want to go with an E2180 instead, some say they overclock better. With the saving you could get some better (faster) RAM as that may be a show stopper in trying to overclock. 800MHz or if you're crazy about overclocking 1066MHz.

Should be a large difference, dual core, better graphics etc. Maybe want to stretch for a 4850 in the graphics department that you could use in your new build in the future till new graphics cards come out again.

Very easy with the GA-P35. You're current RAM could prevent you going too far though.

I'm pretty sure Alex has a thread in this forum??

Thanks very much serverguy, I proabbly will go for the arctic freezer, afterall it doesn't cost too much.

I hadn't thought about the RAM slowing it down, and I suppose I can get 2GB of 800Mhz quite cheap. I've just had a quick look, what is this RAM like? would it get me to a decent OC (over 3GHz) and are they reliable?
Also, I might go for the E2180, it's about £10 cheaper, and if it OC's better that's a win win

I don't think I want to go for a 4850, afterall, I'm only going to have this till about christmas, then I'm probably going to sell it, and a 4850 costs a bit much for only 4 months use. And I still want a nice increase in performace for the new PC I get.

Nice to know it's easy with that other board, I might go for that one then.

I'll take a look around.

That RAM looks good to me. Good price too.

This is Alex's OC guide

And I think i've changed my mind on the RAM, I think I'm going to go for 1066MHz RAM (this stuff) as it's only £10 more, but should allow a larger overclock.

Ok, so I'm probably going to order this stuff in the next couple of days. If there is anything else that should be chosen etc.

Motherboard: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MB-100-GI

RAM: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...8500CL5D-2GBPK)

CPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...)%20-%20Retail

GPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...)%20-%20Retail or do you think it's worth £20 more for this?: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...)%20-%20Retail

If anyone sees any problems let me know please, also any other ecomendations would be arreciated, and I will be using a spare Corsair 450W PSU that we have in an unused computer to power it.
