| While this isnt relevant to much its a bit of a laugh. My mate has a computer which runs Windows XP. Just. I mean it struggles to run anything alongside anything. Lag is noticable when running My Docs and My Pics at the same time. Heres what this monster is housing (Being vague becasue I dont know the model numbers): 19" LCD monitor (Best bit) Intel Celeron 1.7GHz (Not HTT or DC) 128 + 256 MB of DDR RAM (384 for you not so math capable) A DVD drive A DVD R/W drive Intel 82845G Graphics chipset (64Mb) 300W PSU God knows what sound but the PC restarts if you try to change the volume options. Now, Crysis Anyone?? Note this PC does NOT support Ye Olde AGP or PCI-e, Just PCI. On a completely different note, check out a friends work: http://custompc.co.uk/blogs/beigeboxoverhaul/ Hope you stop laughing soon ![]() Last edited by Razer : 10th Aug 2008 at 10:54 AM. |

| If im honest, his PC has "some" trouble running the Vista Upgrade Advisor. It reboots upon detection of something =P I would like to know though is there a way to make his PC stop restarting when the sound options are clicked? Theres no BSOD just poof and back it comes. This probably requires a format.. |

You might want to think about going back to Windows 2K

| Its in the main control panel options. The "Sounds and Audio devices" link. Clicking the sound tab poofs XP. Dont know why but the tuneup Registry cleaner causes the same effects.. |

| I expect it is that the sound card drivers are too much for the PC though. Does it have a separate sound card?

| No seperate card lol. All mobo stuff.. It was designed for running XP even if it was merely the home edition and little else. The rest of XP works fine just this stupid reset on the sound tab feature.. |

| I can't imagine it would be productive with XP, everything must be soo damn slow. 512Mb is the min really for XP. How do you protect it against viruses etc. I should think AV software would all but kill it for ever.

| I think he uses the lovely and over priced McAfee 2008 whole suite thing It takes 25 agonizing minutes to become stable and update. Any attempt to stop this update causes untold slowness. I had a pentium 133 on win 95 that could boot and open up a web window faster than his machine. Its horrible to work with. My PC is by no means fast but after a day at his house my PC feels like the IBM roadrunner |
