Hello everyone, I recently had the issue where my desktop would turn on but wouldn't boot, not even to bios and found the solution was to unplug the power cord and hold the power button in for 45-60 seconds and then plug it back up and boot up. I was suprised to find it worked but a few weeks later it happened again and the same solution fixed the problem. I read somewhere that this was caused by remnant power in the computer on shut down and by holding in the power button you drain any remnants and start cold.

I was wondering what causes this remnant power in the system? Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? So far it's not been a hassel, I'm just worried it may be a sign somethings going bad.

Could be faulty capacitors either in the PSU or motherboard. It's usually a sign either is defective. You might take a look at the motherboard for bulging capacitors and/or replace the PSU.
