Hi, i would appreciate some advice on this pc setup. I'll just list the basic spec of the pc...

- AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
- Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI motherboard
- 3gb of DDR400 RAM (3 1gb sticks, two with heatspreaders
- Samsung 250gb HDD

I am going to add a corsair TX950w psu and i might be getting two Asus VGA GF9800GT's.
What i would like to know is if the rest of the pc is going to be able to run these properly and well or if i would need to change some of the hardware.

I would be greatful if someone could advise me on this, thanks.

There is no such thing as a 950TX, and 9800GTs are bad cards, two of them won't fix that. You're also running a ridiculously old setup so even one high-end card might be a waste of money.

Read this, if you don't want to read the whole thing read the second post. Thankfully for the cost of two 9800GTs and a high-end Corsair PSU, you can probably almost build an entire low-end system, if not just motherboard/CPU/RAM and a graphics card.

Here is a link the the psu i am referring to http://www.custompcwarehouse.co.uk/a...X950W_PSU.html

Personally i have read good reviews on the 9800gt and 8800gt.
I understand that this setup is old that is why i am asking for peoples opinions on this. I do not want to waste money purchasing unsuitable items so that is why i want information on whether the rest of the pc is capable of running them and what i need to take into account.

The 8800GT is a two or three generation old card. It was great when it came out, but the 4830, 4850, 4770, 5750, etc etc all are much better. If it was the middle of 2008 I'd say go for it but the 8800GT and its derivatives have been left in the dust for a while - the only reason it's on the market now is that nVidia's only new cards have been so large and so expensive that cutting them down to that price range wouldn't be a very good move financially for the company. In fact, nVidia is already losing money on most of their cards.

And I guess you're right, there is a 950TX. It's hard to keep track of, considering there's now a:

400CX
450VX
450HX
550VX
650HX
650TX
750HX
750TX
850HX
850TX
950TX
1000HX

;)

In any case, that's ridiculous overkill for even the highest-end setup. Even the highest end single-GPU card, the 5870, will draw roughly 350W max at load. While buying a very low-end power supply is a very bad idea, there's no reason to spend £100 on one.

A X2 240 + 4GB DDR3 + MA770T-UD3 + 4850 will honestly be the cheapest upgrade you can do from that system that will be worth it. You're welcome to try a 4850 in your existing machine, but it's honestly so old and new hardware prices are so low that I would recommend doing all four. If you need a power supply, any of the ones listed in that guide will work: the 430W Seasonic M12II or the 400CX would be good options.
