Default Computer asleep... permanently?

Not 100% sure where to put this because I don't know whats wrong, not even completely sure if its hardware or software issue. I have a PC that had been running for a few weeks and I decided to let it rest so I put it to sleep mode. When I tried to turn it back on 5 hours later none of the keyboard keys would wake it so I pushed the power switch and the PC became active but the monitors displayed "No Input Signal". I reset the PC and the monitors still displayed this. I've tried unplugging the PC and Monitors and it still displays no input signals. I know its not the monitors because I am using them now as I write this. I remember reading some hardware isn't 100% usable with sleep mode which is why I believe this is a hardware issue, but it could be software... I'm completely lost on how to resolve this issue. Any help will be appreciated.
  • Specs: OS: Windows XP Pro
  • MoBo: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
  • CPU: Sorry can't remember exactly, an AMD is all I remember
  • GPU: nVidia (cant remember the exact number sorry)
  • RAM: Corsair DDR400 1GBx2
One more thing. A few months back there was a thunderstorm and I had my PC plugged into a rather cheap surge protector resulting in my PC being unusable for awhile (It wouldn't turn on or anything, but mysteriously worked about a week after). I'm not sure if this helps any.

Sounds a bit strange.

Completely remove all power cables from the PC and leave it off for an hour, unplugged.

Then try restarting it.

Do you get any beeps when you turn it on?

No beeps at all, when I turn it on it sounds and acts normal except for the no display (All fans and lights are on, including the HDD light flashing).

I edited my post while you replied I think, I added some additional info.

Yes, its about a 2-3 year old PC. Worked perfect until the thunderstorm a few months ago. I had a list of the parts I used but cant find it due to my recent move.

Time to give your PSU a viking funeral. Well, maybe that's not such a good idea because of all the heavy metals. Maybe a funeral in a proper computer disposal/recycling facility.

Hopefully that's all that got hit. If it is, you should definitely thank your PSU for taking the bullet.

I've tried a working PSU, so that can't be it. Like I said the PC was working mostly fine until I put it into sleep yesterday, after that it would not display anything (Its like the video card inst sending a signal, but how would the video card break from putting it to sleep?).

In these sort of situations it's usually best not to dwell on "why". Sometimes things just break, and they choose to break at inopportune times. Perhaps the solder melted on something. Who knows? Sleep mode will have nothing to do with this as the BIOS will display regardless of any Windows settings.

Since you've tried a PSU, the next (as in cheapest) step is a new video card.

After doing some thinking I remembered that I would occasionally (once every 2 weeks about) get memory errors that crashed my PC ever since the thunderstorm, could a thunderstorm affect the memory so that it could cause this?

Although I understand things can just break, I like to know why. And I know it may just be a huge coincidence that it stopped working after I put it to sleep, but I cant stop feeling that putting it to sleep caused all this. My current crazy theory is that when I put the PC to sleep it saved everything into the RAM that may have been damaged in the thunderstorm and now caused it to stop working. Is this even possible?

No, it's not.

You might try removing one stick of RAM and seeing if that helps.
