Maybe Carbon can give me a hand here, it's about his guide. There's nothing wrong with it, far from it but I ran into some confusion.
While I'm aware the guide is a few months old, the 9600GT is older than the guide. My mate runs a system comprised of: E7400 2Gb DDR2 made by.. some company. 7200RPM drives Palit 9600GT 512Mb Some random Gigabyte motherboard that doesn't house his front USB panel. Now that's a half decent system and plays any game at 1440x900 at any specs. This is where the confusion comes in. How can a 9600GT, a budget card, run Crysis and FarCry 2 on the highest settings and full resolution smoothly? I was under the impression that budget cards are made to display some form of colour and little else. Perhaps I'm thinking it wrong or looking at it in the wrong way because I've seen vastly more expensive and better computers struggle to run Crysis on native settings. *Waits for stupidly obvious answer to confusion* Thanks guys, and Carbon for the guide. Saved pennies which I later spent on cookies

Well..it doesn't?. Far Cry 2 is a different matter, I had it running at max settings on my 8800GTS 320 fine for a long time. The 9600GT is just a budget 8800GT, which was the default recommendation for a long time and ran well - it's a gaming card, not a glorified HTPC sort of thing like the 9400/8400/8500.
A lot of cards run "fine" - it's just that other ones are recommended because they beat "fine" for nearly the same price :)

I've seen this with my very own eyes. Not sure on the AA settings and AF settings but it was XP so only DX9, that's a DX10 review.
If I can get a screen shot from him, I'll post it up |
