That guide isn't what im looking for. I want one that will help me pick components and what to look for in certain things like motherboards and that.

I'm not sure if these are what you are looking for, but the below links may help.

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_To_...sing_the_parts http://www.mysuperpc.com/ I think most guides will tell you how do physically put the parts together but wont necessarily give you much advice in terms of parts selection. This is mainly because 1. motherboards, cpu's etc change so frequently 2. It depends on what you are going to use the computer for, gaming, watching movies, work etc 3. peoples budgets may vary widely There are two things you can do to help. Some websites put together 'best bang for the buck' systems. These are basically the website's recommendations for the best current system system (i.e. using the latest parts) at a reasonable price. You can use this as a starting pointing. A couple of sites that I looked at are below: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2144892,00.asp http://www.silentpcreview.com/article698-page1.html Secondly you can look for guides for choosing each part. below is a motherboard guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/...ard_selection/ This approach takes a longer to research but gives you more current information. Finally once you have an idea of the parts you want, then surf some computer forums to see what comments people are making about particular parts (look at user comments on things like newegg.com too). you can also start a new thread with your intended parts and get people to comment. I found this useful although you need to keep focused on your usage. For example, people kept telling me that I needed an 8800 video card, but I'm not a gamer so I didn't. some people did give good advice recommending other options. I bought a 8600 card in the end and am very happy with it. My System: The Elephant
