Default Computer Cant Handle 3 Hard drives?

I have my standard drive which came with the PC, and I had a friend put in a 250gb h/d and I also got a 80gb h/d but when adding the 80gb h/d it wont work for some reason, but if I take out the 250gb h/d then the 80gb h/d will work..

What's the problem here?

If you have two drives on one cable one needs to be set master and one slave.

There are jumpers on the driver to set the desired format.

The simplest way is to set both drives to 'cable select' setting then the drives will automatically set themselves up.

Dave.

The drives were all set correct like with slave and what not, my mate who put them in new this sort of stuff he's really into his computers, he has about 5 h/d's in his so he knows how to set them up.

Could it be a issue of my computer not having enough power?

I do not have a clue what that means.. If you tell me how I can find out what I have I sure will tell you. Can I tell by right clicking on my computer and going to the hardware bit?

You would have to open up your computer, but, tbh, i doubt it is the power, its almost certainly the setup of the jumpers/cables or check that all drives are setup correct in the bios.

To enter bios hit Del key when you first power on the PC a blue screen should appear and then got hard drives and use auto detect.

Let me know...

Dave.

I would if I could, but I my mate removed the 80gb h/d due to it not working, and I am not so clever on putting them in.

I know I have a spare connector on one of the cables, but I wouldn't have a clue as to what to set it as slave, master and I don't even know how. Sorry I sound useless.

Why do you need so many drives it's better to have two giant drives than adding lots more noisy small drives, more parts means things can go wrong more often. If you really need all the data space you could add an external drive through a usb 2 socket. Maxtor do a 1000 GB external hard drive.

yeah but the big drives like that are so exspensive, I have two 250gb drives, but just wanted to add in my 80gb as well as it has loads of stuff on it which I would liek to get off.
