Default Computer Down

Hi all,

I put together a desktop last year and things have been working great. 2.4G Dual Core 2, 2Gig RAM, Fast video card. I was just playing Call of Duty 4 online and all of a sudden it went DEAD, D-E-A-D, DEAD. I thought the house lost power. I unplugged the power and turned off the switch, then I plugged it back in and turned the power on. The computer lights and fans inside flash on real quick then go off. Now it's not even doing that.

I will say that the computer was definitely warm/hot, but I've had it in the same conditions for almost a year now. (I did add the additional Gig of RAM last month). If you have any ideas PLLLEEEEEAAAASSSEEEE let me know. I have some important stuff on it that I can't get to now.

-Jay

i agree. carbon is right.

no doubt you probably fell prey to one of those GET A HUGE WATTAGE FOR AN INCREDIBLY LOW PRICE! deals....and those are the worst.

you're not a newbie. you built it yourself after all. but what you should've known, or asked about was the rule of thumb for power supplies.

when you're buying one. first of all make sure you've read the specs that it offers. 500 watts is usually good for most PCs. but then you have to check to see that you're paying at the very least 80-90 dollars for it. anywhere below that and you're getting an iffy product.

antec, enermax, and thermaltake make some very nice power supplies. order one of those. i built my own computer too, and i'm using an antec earthwatts 500 watt power supply.it was 90 dollars last i checked on newegg.com. it's going, and going strong. and i've been using it non-stop for a month now.

check one of those power supplies out and buy one.
