Default Computer Freezing and XP Gets Slow

Ok, Well I have this computer here that my mom got from who knows where. We have had it for about 2 months and I have decided to hook it up test it out. (My other computer is getting old so I need a new one.) And, these are some things about this computer.

Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP3 Version 2002
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
2.39 GHz. 240 MB of RAM
37.2GB HD

Only 10GB of the HD is used right now. When ever I have firefox open, and I open another program, it will ussaly freeze. And I ussaly have minamal programs open on my computer while im on it. Most of the times, programs will freeze on here to. I really dont know what to do. I was thinking rebooting the whole computer, But im not sure. Im only 15 :\ I also dont know what it takes to do that. Can someone/everyone please help me! :\
Thank You Very Much

240MB of RAM? Way too low.

Microsoft recommend 512MB min to run XP. 1GB to run at a reasonable speed.

That's what I would try first.

Run your CPU-Z again and click on "mainboard." Let me know the manufacturer and model number. I will google it and we can go from there.

Also in CPU-Z, post the RAM spec you have in their respective slots.

A couple of questions to help narrow down the issue:

1.) Have you checked your PC for viruses/spyware?

2.) When did you computer start freezing? Was there an update to your hardware software
prior to the problem you are experiencing?
