I was just looking at some of the capacitors on my motherboard and some of them have their tops bulging upwards a little. It seems like that may be it going to test some other tips from Is your PC dead? Find out why and how to fix it Thread.

Yeah it does not. What really is bad is that I just bought a new CPU(old one got a pin broken anyway) and now I may have to buy a new mother board. If I would have know I would have just bought a new better mother board and new better CPU. I got a 3.0 ghz with I think 800 mhz 478 pins how good or bad would you say that is compared to the newer CPU's now in days?

I got it from NewEgg. Do they let you return it for any reason. And more importantly I am not sure about my ability to put in a new mother board. Just how hard is it? Also If I get a new mother board will I need a new case and new Power supply. If I do then that would cost to much.

| its really depends, if the case can accommodate a standard atx motherboard then no you will not need a new case

NewEgg is very finicky about CPU returns. They will also charge you a 15% restocking fee for refunds.

Ok I have been looking at new better mother boards for better CPU's than 478 which I have and I think I will just stick with a 478 intel CPU motherboard. I will have to change too many other parts and cost would increase to much if I upgrade to a mother board with a better CPU. However I'm torn between getting the exact same mother board (478 intel pentium4) I have which uses AGP and a mother board which uses PCI Express. A PCI express motherboard would be nice though that would mean my AGP graphics card would have to be replace I also am not sure if my other components in my current computer would fit in another motherboard. j Which components should I check to see if the new mother board has that my current one has? I really am kinda lost on this.

Why would you get PCI-E? You're already buying outdated hardware.

Well I was thinking of buying only a new motherboard and graphics card. But then are saying I should just get the same motherboard I currently have? Wouldn't be bad since I already know that everything I have fits. Last edited by xerxesjc28 : 4th Jan 2008 at 08:57 PM.

What I'm saying is it's useless to buy a motherboard with an old (soon to be even older) processor technology and most likely DDR1.ram. At that point you're better off just buying a whole new setup. Go for whatever's cheapest for now.

| agreed go for the cheapest set up and then in the near future consider a new system
