Default Computer Problem

Hi all,

I am having a problem with my computer. It powers up perfectly fine, I am able to get into bios also. But I can't get into windows. It comes up and says, please select the appropriate boot device and then press any key. (May not be exact words).

So i tried to do a fresh install, by going into bios and setting it to boot from cd, but says the same thing, (please select the appropriate boot device and then press any key). I don't know what else to try. Do you think this could be a bad hard drive?

Thanks in advance.

Regards Jase

Hi Jase.

Firstly, unplug every cable from the components please, and then reconnect.

Secondly, when booting from the optical is it set to master in the bios? Jumpers (if any) on the master, set to master?

I've got the hard drive set as master and the optical drive as slave, but my computer doesn't always start up and when it does the lights on the case don't even light up but i get a display. I know it aint the motherboard as I've had that tested. I don't know what else it could be.

Anything else to suggest?

Right got the lights on the case working. But it still keeps saying "Reboot and select proper boot device, Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" I set it too boot from cd so I can do a fresh install but It says the same thing.

Finally got it to do a fresh install. Everything seems to be working fine, even though it stays at a black screen when booting up just after bios for about 30secs or so. Is this anything to worry about?
