Default Computer rebuild wont boot properly

Hi all,

I'm new on here so hope you can help.

Asrock Alivesata2 M/B
AMD 4200 Dual Core
Sata 250GB HDD
NEC DVD RW
2x 1GB Matched DDRII 266MHZ Memory (Running Dual Channel)
256MB PCI Express graphics card (ATI iirc)
Was running windows Vista Ultimate

Thats the specs done, i had it running fine until i took it all out and put it back into a new case the only recent changes were a new DVDRW and took out an IDE hard drive and a DVD Rom.

Won't boot at all with both memory sticks in.
With 1 in it will start to boot but seems very slow.
Cannot reinstall from Vista disk
Cannot boot into safe mode
Just goes onto black screen and nothing else after it posts.

Can any one give me an idea if i'm doing anything wrong or maybe know what is causing this.

Thanks in advance.

P.s sorry for long post and hope this is the correct section to post this in.

Something seems wrong here.

Disconnect everything from the computer just leaving the Motherboard, Memory, Processor, Hard Drive and PSU of course.

Then see if it will boot. If it does post back with what happens.

I have disconnected the SATA drive and left the IDE drive in and have been able to reinstall XP on the old hard drive so i guess its something to do with Vista on the hard drive. I am going to put the second memory stick back in and see it boots ok then if thats the case retrieve everything i can from the SATA drive and try reinsatlling it with XP. I have been very impressed with Vista at the moment. Thanks for your reply will let you know how i get on.

How strange, so far i can boot fine with the one stick or ram in but with the second nothing (maybe 1 has gone up the swanny so to speak)

Also i am able to reinstall vista now.

At least it is working again, shame about the memory now cause i cant afford to replace it this month.

Cheers anyway
Simon

Unless you can come up with any ideas on the stick of ram.

It sounds like the RAM has packed in. Have you got another PC you could test it in. Or just try a different socket on the Motherboard for it to check that it is not the Motherboard at fault.

If you could get it to boot at all you could run memtest86 on it and see what that finds.

Update for any one who's interested in the outcome. 1 stick of a matched pair is fu-barred so having to run only 1 gig of ram in sigle channel mode but loaded windows back on to it ok now just need to retrieve all my data and wipe the SATA drive and out XP back on until i upgrade my sound card and Vista drivers are available freely for everything.
