Okay, so I built a gaming rig for my friend, works great except for the fact that it restarts 5-10 mins into every game!
Specs: MSI P45 MoBo VisionTek Radeon HD 4850 Video Card 1066 OCZ ddr2 ram 600w 38a PSU Wolfdale e7200 intel CPU No one I've asked has any ideo why it is doing this. Everything is at good temp and is working flawlessly, then randomly *fwump* restarts. Any advice? |

Check for correct voltage going to the ram.

Who OS and how much RAM?

I am using XP Pro, with 2gigs of the ram listed above. I use Catalyst Control Center to monitor video card temp, which is running at 41 degrees idle, and about 50 under load. I use my MoBo's Dual Core Center to monitor system and CPU temp. CPU is around 23 degrees idle and system is around 25 degrees. I have yet to check either under load, but I've never had a CPU raise more the 10-20 degrees under load, so i doubt it would be overheating either.
Ram is 1066, but I've heard reports of it being timed wrong in some computers, how would I check and change timings? |

It's not the timings.
What's the PSU brand? 38A on 600W seems a little suspicious.

Ram running at 1066 usually requires more voltage than slower generic ram.Check the voltages like I said. Its doubtful default BIOS settings will set the correct voltage automatically.
I think OCZ used to say 2.3V now they say 2.1 I think or 2.2V max I have RAMd 8GB of OCZ Ram btw.lol |

Coolmax is the brand output was listed as:
+3.3V@24A,+5V@24A,+12V1@18A,+12V2@18A,+12V3@15A, -12V@0.5A,+5VSB@2.5A never really understood how to read it, 38a was told to me by friend who recommended it so idk if true. Full specs listed here. On ram listed it says 2.1v is what it's at and that 2.34v or something is max. Also, messed around with it a little more and it seemed that the computer had stopped restarting constantly. Played WoW for about 60 minutes without it restarting at all. Shut it down, went to movie, came back and tried playing games again....restarts again =/ |

i would replace the PSU. I've never heard of "coolmax" and that sounds like a pretty trashy PSU. 4850's a pretty demanding card as well. If you can, RMA it and pick up a Corsair 450.

Would a bad PSU really cause that? It works while doing everything else. Also, I found out that it's been doing it for youtube as well.

Have you got an old graphics card you can test it with? You can try downloading Intel Burn Test and letting it run for about 20 runs. http://downloads.guru3d.com/IntelBur...load-2047.html That will test the CPU and RAM, to see if they are stable. If that crashes, then it might not be the PSU. If it crashes Intel Burn Test, then download and run Memtest86 on it, and see if it comes up as a fail. If it passes that, then you can pretty much guarantee that it is the PSU at fault.
