Hi guys. I got a big problem here, and im hoping you can help. My computer's been shutting off after about 1 hour of use everytime i use it now. After it shuts down, I have to restart it, (then the screen still wont light up), turn it off manually, and restart it again. Now what I did is use PCDocPro to scan the computer, and I fixed about 80 errors. Figuring that a scan from xoftspy couldnt hurt either, I started the scan. Now after about 1000 files scanned, my computer shut off again...So I finally decided to format my c: drive. I start the format and...suprise....computer shuts down....o and time is not a factor when i use scanners or format, it used to be one hour, but it seems everytime i try to fix it, its then that it shuts off. I use winxp home btw. If any of you guys can help, id really appreciate it! Thanks a lot.

If the PC shuts down doing a fresh install/format it is 100% hardware related and not a virus.

Open the PC and check the fans are working and clean, it is probably shutting down as it is overheating.

Im trying to format as i write this, I checked the fans, everything is fine, but i opened the case and i put another big fan in front so now it should be ok...wow im at 9%, it crashed before reaching 1 last time. ok so if it is the overheating, then the only thing i can do is buy another fan i guess, but i already have 3...i dont have any space for it lol. guess the case is gonna be opened from now on. Thanks for the help :)

The fan on the processor is the important one, just because it's working doesnt mean the bearings haven't gone, and processors are very sensitive.

If it come to it replace the processor fan, adding more is not going to improve things.
