My computer has recently gone wrong... (I know nothing of computers and have come to this forum seeking help.)

A few days ago, while surfing the net, the entire computer froze, the mouse would not move and no action would un-freeze it. So, I ended up turning it off at the tower. When turned back on, the Compaq symbol that always appears when turning it on came up, but then the screen went black.

After about 20 mins of this black screen, a window came up, I cannot remember exactly what this was, but it led to the reformating of the computer.

The reformatting seemed to work, I lost everything but at least it was working. Until yesterday, when the same thing happened again, this time, it led to a system recovery instead of reformating and everything was normal again.

A third time, it froze, we waited for about an hour at this frozen screen but nothing happened, and it was promptly switched off again.

Turning it on again today, nothing but a message saying "DISK BOOT FAILURE ENTER SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER."

The problem is, we don't have this disk, this was a refurbished computer to and didn't come with anything, so I have no idea what to do.

Hmmm...have you checked all cables are tight? Or maybe there might be firmware corruption on the disk..What make of disk it is?

It may be your processor that has given up, but the only way to find out is to take it out and try it on a different computer, and see if the same thing happens. If it doesnt, then it is more than likely something else.
