Angry Computer Won't Start

I have an Athlon XP 2600 with 512mb PC2100 RAM. It has on-board graphics and runs on XP Home Edition.

When it is switched on - all the necessary fans work - the monitor standby light switches on - but the display shows 'No Signal'. The computer then starts to beep twice intermittently.

Any solutions???

Hi Yorkie

Welcome to TCF

This sounds like either bad memory or a dislodged graphics card,
Let me look or if the team have an immediate answer then great.
Do you know the make of your BIOS?
I'm guessing it's AMI

Default Computer Won't Start

have tried various things with the memory cards (cleaning and replacing etc) and hey presto the computer now works!!! or so I thought.

Everything boots up Ok but I can't get passed the windows xp log-in. It will no longer accept my password so I cannot get into the system to do anything. I know prior to breaking down that I was having problems getting into Xp and it was threatening me with 7 days to revalidate - despite doing so on a number of occasions. Can't helkp but think the only solution is to buy a new HDD??

What do you think?

Regards

Default Computer Won't Start

Computer is my son's and we have the original Windows XP Home edition OEM Product Key. Over a period of time his computer started to run slower and slower so a couple of times he re-installed the XP and revalidated it. No problems there - but when he tried to wipe off old files and progrmas from his hard drive - it wouldn't do it. So on a HDD of 60GB it only had about 5GB of free space.

No major hardware changes have taken place other than taking out the 1 GB of RAM (to go in a new computer) and replacing it with the older 512mb RAM.

Regards

I'd get on the phone to Microsoft Jey.
In theory you shouldn't have a problem reinstalling on the same pc any number of times but I do know MS aren't keen.
I'd do a complete new install rather than a reinstall, are you aware of how to do so?

To Jey:
The mobo battery will not be causing this problem mate.
