Thats a matter of opinion.
Both have there ups and downs but in the end its what the user prefers, I've never had any problems involving viruses when using windows, sure Ive had my share of viruses but nothing that i couldn't deal with.

A Mac is a standard C2D system with a software package and some proprietary memory.

That's all it has ever been since Apple switched to Intel chips and saying it's 'better for certain tasks' is misleading. If you like spending an ungodly amount of money to get some software, buy a Mac. But you're not getting anything special.

both os's have their ups and downs. a mac upside is that at idle the computer is performin a lot less background tasks, but a windows upside is that a lot more companies make programs for windows that would need to run through boot camp on a mac. another point is that mac's really arn't that expensive. they start at $850 in australia. a basic imac is $1599, thats 2.4ghz c2d, 1gb ram, 250gb hdd. a compaq presario of the same price gets a 2.1ghz amd phenom 8400, 2gb ram and a 320gb hdd. i know the prices are useless to you guys, but its just a comparo

If you are into scientific computing then Unix/Linux is the only way to go. As the macs now run a Unix variant, they are ok, but for much less money you can buy/build a non-proprietary pc and stick Linux on it.

Possibly some programs are still only available for Macs, but many programs are only available for Windoze PCs. A much better option would be to campaign for the few remaining Mac-only programs to be made available for PC and Linux.
