| Just saw this on Dell's site. On an XPS build. If you upgrade the cpu (from an E6320). Need there ever be another example of why you shouldn't upgrade a build when you buy from Dell?..... Intel® Core™ 2 Quad-Core QX6700 Extreme Processor (2.66GHz,1066MHz,8MB cache) [add £1,034.00 or £26/month1] This cpu, by itself, from an E-tailer costs around 600.00. Oh dear. ![]()

The core numbers are the same (cpu, amount of ram etc as I've tried to keep the build the same as the Dell for a, more or less, direct comparison). More fans, your own components (and good one's at that), given the choice to overclock should you want to. And it's not the dumb BTX format, so if something 'goes' you can swap it out with mainstream items, not pay through the nose for a replacement from Dell (Mobo, hsf etc) Case: Antec P180 Black (No PSU) Window: none selected Cabling: Standard Cable Management Cooling: Premium Cooling System (2-4 Fans with digital controller) Airbrushing: none selected Fans type: Blue-LED fans PSU: Enermax Infiniti Modular 720W PSU Motherboard: Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus (Nvidia 650i - 1333 FSB Conroe) CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad QX6800 Extreme Retail (4x2.93GHz 1066FSB 8Mb) CPU Cooling: Arctic Freezer 7 Cooler Pro (LGA775) Memory: (2x) OCZ DDR2-800 2x1024MB Special OPS Edition Dual Channel Kit Physics: BFG Ageia PhysX Accelerator Graphics: (2x) BFG Nvidia 8800GTX OC 768Mb PCIe HDCP Hard Drive: (2x) 750Gb Barracuda 7200.10 16mb Cache SATA II NCQ Storage HD: 500Gb Samsung SpinPoint T166 HD501LJ 7200 16mb Cache SATA II Optical Drive: Pioneer 112DBK DVDRW Black OEM Optical Drive 2: Pioneer 112DBK DVDRW Black OEM Floppy Drive: Icy Box 16-in-1 internal/external USB Card reader (Black) PCI card: none selected PCIe Device: none selected Sound Card: Creative 7.1 X-FI XtremeAudio Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit DVD OEM Secondary OS: none selected X-Image: none selected Building: Standard Build (5-15 working days) Overclocking: none selected Warranty: Deluxe 1 Year Collect and Return-Onsite Warranty (+1 year RTB) Free T-Shirt: Vadim Computers Baseball T-Shirt (M) Packaging: Heavy-duty packaging (Full Towers - 80x80x40) (Add around 220.00 for a decent 20/22" TFT) All in: 3584.74 The moral of this thread? Don't buy a gaming machine from Dell. Don't upgrade any component on a Dell build. In fact, just don't buy from Dell full stop.

| Actually, the case quoted in the Vadim build isn't ideal, but you get the idea.

| dell are hopeless for everything but laptops and monitors. Even there 24" widescreens have been superceded by the new samsung range. Yet the poor non technically illiterates of the worlds will still be conned by the this terrible corporation. |

| It does upset me somewhat when these things happen. They make money by offering crap 'computing solutions' to the masses. Although im not free from blame, when my mum had a new computer system at work we purchased from Dell. I did offer to build the systems myself, but my mum just wanted them to arrive ready built. Never mind. |
