Hey,

While playing cod4 yesterday my computer suddenly shutoff, and gave off a burnt plastic smell. After shutting off it turned itself back on, and then was unable to get past the windows loading screen.

So I am not really sure what the hell is wrong with it, since I can get to the windows screen I was thinking maybe its not the HD, but then I get this half a second blue screen that pops up during windows is loading and I just shuts off. I have taken out my video card and have been using onboard video and the same problem.

Tried using one stick of ram, and unplugged the cd drive. So right now all that is installed is the cpu, one stick of ram, and the hd. It can power up fine and get to the boot options menu, but even when I try to start up safe mode I get it shutting off again.

I did try using a different hard drive, and I still get a blue screen or if I get to the login screen it freezes up and eventually shuts off.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Its actually brand new, about 3 weeks old now so there is very little amounts of dust if any.

I get past BIOS, it asks me what startup I want to use and I can pick safe mode. After that it either shuts off after a few seconds or gets to the login screen, then freezes and shuts off.

I think it was probably your PSU gone, or atleast a part of it. Have you got another PSu around you can try with?

I was thinking it was the PSU, or the cpu. I don't have another that is compatible around, I guess I'll have to get a new one. I think antec does have some kind of warranty on this though.

CPUs rarely go, PSUs go all the time and in some case the PC will still partially work.

Get a cheap PSU and try that, cheapest and easiest thing to try.

Before getting a new one atleast open up your case and check for obvious burn marks on or around your components.
stock psu's are very touch and go.
