| And that reason is "they are used in the media industry for a reason". To put it another way, they are so commonplace in the industry because people are used to the software that comes with them, not because of any specific advantage.

| Ok, I have made a final list of parts which are all from different suppliers, as its the cheapest I can find (apart from some where for certain reasons will not work, I have gone a few quid higher for one that will) Case Cooling CPU Graphics Card Primary Hard Drive Secondorary Hard Drive Motherboard Networking PCI Optical Drive OS PSU RAM Sound Card Sorry Tom, no mac for me. Thingie your a legend!! Thanks that link is just what i needed. My only question now is whether I need to buy any like cables or fixings etc.? Or does it all slot together nicely? Or do cables come with it? Actually thinking about it I know cables are involved, but do the necessary ones come with each individual bit of hardware? NOTE: Im talking internal cabling, not like VGA - DVI, anything like that.

| All should come with the cables required. Although as you are having two hard drives, you will need to buy a second SATA cable - motherboards usually have one, but not two! |

I'd hate to put it all together and be missing a cable

| The soundblaster card does not work correctly with the 64 bit Vista OS. Creative Labs made a conscious decision NOT to make drivers that would allow the features that high end sound users need and want. I have that same card in my XP computer and would not trade it for anything else. When i bought another one to put in this computer (64 bit Vista) it was crap. I investigated and found out that my above statement is absolutely and 100% accurate. As such, I took the new Xfi Xtreme back and got by money back. Apparently Creatives marketing stategy is to sell out of their backstock of current cards and then come out with a "new" X-Fi 2 that will work correctly with Vista 64. From all i have learned, it will basically be the same card but with drivers that actually work with Vista 64. Also, why get two Hard drives, a 750GB and a 250 GB, instead of just one 1 TB hard drive? |

| Also on the info bit about the Motherboard I chose it says about having a realtek 8 chan. (7.1) audio codec on board.. So do I not need a Sound Card? Or does "codec" mean that it has the ability to use a 7.1 Sound Card, but you need to buy that seperately?

2) A lot of reasons, that make not much sense.. Partly because one will back up more important docs (the 250GB) Also, because of partition limits, I'm after 2 partitions on the 250GB, and 3 on the 750GB. Along with 2 partitions on a 500GB external, and a 4GB Flash. You must think I'm mad.. what's that.. like, 1.5TB plus a tiny bit for the Flash Drive..

| Another thing.. (sorry about all this) My Motherboard has 4 slots for RAM, if I've read and understood correctly, so instead of buying 4x1GB sticks, for purposes of future upgrade would it be better to buy 2x2GB? Or is there a reasonable advantage to multiple sticks?
