Have you tried with just the basics?

Mobo, RAM (Try alternate sticks), CPU, Onboard or GFX card, PSU.

That's all you need to power on.

No drives, no add-on cards. Just the bare minimum.

Take out any PCI cards. Take out ram, turn it on, do you get the beep response telling you that there is no ram? If so then I would suspect your video card. If not then I would suspect your mobo considering you have already tested your PSU.

took all ram sticks out and still nothing, just the unpleasant sound of the cpu fan turning at a slow speed kind of like the background music for a resident evil game lol

i have been recommended this motherboard as a replacement

http://www.awd-it.com/scripts/prodVi...idproduct=4768

im just thinking, it has a 8300 onboard apparently and HD outputs

its abit over the top for what i will be now using it for..work reports

i just need a motherboard that takes a dual core cpu, has a pci slot for my 8600gt and can run on a 300watt power supply, as you can see my understand of mobos is slightly..... non existent lol

like i say im not looking for value for money (alot fo stuff for cheap) im just looking for something that will work for cheap as i will never use the motherboard to its full capabilities im sure

cheers all, also if i could be so lazy, ive read through how to physically install a new motherboard (sob story to microsoft etc) i've just read on this forum a few times that jumpers can cause problems...what are jumpers lol? or risers... unsure lol

cheers all, been a huge help so far!

dont worry about the risers and jumpers questions all, read through some other threads and got the hang of it, felt lazy lol

but if you could still direct me in a motherboard choice that'd be great:) cheers again lol

sorted, replaced motherboard, registered vista again (Microsoft were surprisingly helpful lol), this one even runs better than the previous motherboard and its a lower spec lol
