Well I put the old hard drive into this computer, (had the jumper set to master, just cause that's how it was when i put it in there) and I didn't think it would but the computer tried to boot XP (didn't think an IDE drive > SATA drive...huh) so when it posted i went to the boot menu and selected the drive with Vista on it.
Vista recognized it right away, installed the drivers for it, and now I can see it in the Computer. Thing is, I don't exactly want that copy of XP anymore (as I don't think it works well...) and I would like to know how to uninstall it. Is it as simple as deleting the whole windows folder or would I have to format it? I want to keep some of the stuff on there (programs, pictures). Is moving a program as easy as copy/paste and then clicking run? Or do I acutally have to install it again? (I hope not, seeing as I lost my Starcraft disk somehow...I have the Brood War disk, but not the first one) Sorry for the onslaught of questions, Thanks in advance! |

Sorry for double post, but my 15 minute time limit was up apparently...
EDIT: THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING EVER!! I can't seem to view some (most) of my files (due to the fact that I don't have permission, even though I am the author of those files, but I guess there's no way Vista knows that...even if I change the ownership of the file). What do I have to do for this? |

The only thing that ou need to do is format the partition that XP is on by going into the Disk Management screen and formatting whatever drive XP is located this should help you out

Problem with that is there's no partition that XP is on on the old drive, if I were to format the drive I would lose everything on it and I want some of it.

Well, nevermind. After some messing around I was able to move a couple programs and still have them work, and I decided that whatever would be needed to make the pictures viewable weren't really worth it for the pictures. So oh well I formatted it.
Now I have 80 more gigs of space. Though this drive is EXTREMELY loud. |
