Hi,

My Dell Dimension 5100 won't boot. The only thing what starts is a light on a motherboard then it eventually turns off. No fans or anything else starts up. Is there any solution to fix this.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it could be a blown power supply, had any power cuts recently?

Yep, sounds like the power supply, is there another power supply with which you can test it with?

Yeh, I had a power cut and since then it wouldn't boot. I han't tried another power supply but I will try later on today.

And if it helps all the plugs conntected to my computer go through a power surge extension.

They seem slightly useless then.

Do you know what a power supply looks like?

1. Ensure that the PC is turned off and is unplugged from the mains.
2. Discharge yourself of any static by touching the outside of the case.
3. Find the Power Supply and all it is connected to (you can make a mental note, take a picture or even draw it) and disconnect it and all its connections.
4. Get another (working) Power Supply and plug it in to exactly the same sockets (this is where the image comes in handy) the old power supply was previously connected to.
5. Plug the PC back in and turn it on and see if it works.

Have you tried using a different extension lead? I had a power surge, and whilst my surge protector protected my PC, it blew up in the process :-P
