A bloke at work has one for the kids, he's happy with it.

It's never going to be a gaming machine in stock build but it's rather good value for money considering the various build/price combo's. So it depends on your needs as to whether or not it's worth purchasing.

And you simply can't go wrong with a Dell monitor.

On the downside the service is going to be crap, should you experience any issue's that you can't resolve yourself. But I guess that's what forum's are for (hint). .

Dell's stock keyboards are responsive if overly loud when typing. Their standard mice, however, are a whole different story; crap.

Just an opinion.

It's probably different in the UK (really low dollar), but here I can actually outbuild a Dell system with non-proprietary parts and a PCI-E slot. If you're at all familiar with computers you may check into the lowest-price system you can build comparable to that Dell. Having a good barebones system will be nice later on if you ever want to do some light gaming - throw in a 8600 and you're off.

For example, I recently put together a budget mid-tower beigebox for around $400 (£200 or so) with a Core 2 Duo (not using the 45nm E7xxx ones that came out, but that's easily an option instead of the one I looked at), 512MB of RAM, 80GB HDD. You can easily mess around a bit with with the price constraint to get a 19" monitor and a larger HDD and some more RAM (you can get 2GB of DDR2 for $30 with rebates here sometimes, often $10 for 512mb) to equal the lowest-price Dell on that page.

It may not be worth the hassle, but you may want to look into it.

Well, it'll be something you may have to throw away in a couple years or less. The Pentium D is not the best processor - a Core 2 Duo is much better, it'll work but I would grab a C2D.

You will be locked into a integrated video chipset and you will be unable to upgrade anything else (PSU is proprietary, no GPU upgrades, motherboard is very basic).

Like I said before, you can probably order a better computer via parts off a UK site and have someone build it for cheaper and get a better deal.

Dell are OK if you stick to the basic build. Once you start to customize prices soar. £50 for the hard drive upgrade when a 500Gb is only £20 more than a 160Gb. You could do better for your money especially since you don't want the Dell monitor. Don't snub the E2160, it is a baby Conroe and is Core2Duo with a lower FSB and less cache.
