I have an NVidia 8200 motherboard with an AMD Phenom X3 processor, 2GB RAM, using integrated graphics. Everything was working fine for a while, but now the screen will freeze when making videos full screen on Youtube, after about a minute. The video will freeze, but the audio will continue going. I can press Esc and re-enter fullscreen mode and it will be fine for about another minute before freezing again. If I run Milkdrop (an audio visualizer) in Winamp, it works fine for the most part, but a lot of times, after ~5-10 minutes the screen will go black, the audio will stop, and the system is unresponsive. I have to hold down the power button to shut off the computer. Using the new ITunes 8 visualizer, the computer freezes within a matter of seconds, and I have to hold down the power button to shut off the computer.

This would make me believe that there is some issue with the Integrated Graphics Processor, but I just upgraded the NVidia drivers and it didn't make any difference.

I know that I should probably get a new graphics card, but the integrated graphics processor is definitely enough for my needs... since this is a decent IGP by NVidia. It is quick enough for me (not choppy), but it brings down the whole system for some reason.

I tested the Video Memory with Video Memory Stress Test (VMT), and it comes back with lots and lots of errors. But, I run MemTest and I don't get ANY errors. This confuses me. I read somewhere online that this problem could be because of the GPU overheating? I checked the temps, and it is running at 62 degrees celsius, which is higher than the other components, but is still not that high. I even cleaned the inside of the computer so that there is no dust/debris in there.

I also checked the system RAM usage, and it was nowhere near full, so the 2GB shared should be enough. I have the video memory share size set to AUTO in BIOS. I am running XP and 31 processes are running.

So now I am stumped. I don't know whether I am having a problem with my GPU or my RAM, or something completely different. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Shawn

What a conundrum. What's your PSU?

I thought that the PSU was the problem as well, so that was just replaced a few days ago. This is in an Antec Aria case, so they have a proprietary one. My only option was to replace it with Antec's 350w PSU.

Yeah, if memtest isn't coming up with anything it sounds like the GPU's the problem, and I doubt replacing motherboards is cost effective. Why not throw in a 8400GT or 7200GS for less than $30?
