Default Do I need A Server?

Hello everyone I have 3 computers running PCLinusOS 20007 and I am planning to add a fourth computer with a modern processor. My other systems are a Duron 700 and two socket 478 Athlons.

I would like to have my software packages on one pc along with my large capacity HD so that a user could access popular software and save work to a central HD.

Am I describing a server application and would ubuntu or PCLinusOS 2007 allow me to do this and of course how do I set it up?

Thanks

This is easy. Install Linux on each PC. The server is no different to all the rest.

On another PC, when you get to a login screen, choose remote login. You then "see" the desktop of the server as though you were sitting at it. You may have to adjust audio settings so that music is played on the remote PC rather than server but that is minor.

I would go for the latest openSUSE though, but I do like PCLinuxOS. Ubuntu I have had lots of problems with as regards stability. However, you can mix them all, it really doesn't matter.

There is another way, and that is to login locally and then use a remote secure shell to run server applications. All great fun and far more sophisticated than Windoze!
