Default Dying Harddrives, Mobo, Etc

It alll started with my Mobo going. Then I bought a bunch of new parts for my computer. The only things not new are my 2 optical drives, PSU, and hardrives. I start formatting my (IDE)drive and trying to get it to work. It starts clicking, then dies. Meh, its been around a while, maybe it was it's time to go. A friend of mine gave me an (SATA) external harddrive of his a coupla weeks ago. I take it out of the enclosure, and stick it in my computer(Molex connector, my PSU didnt have any SATA connectors). Format it, put the Os, everything works for 2-3 days. Then it starts clicking, and obviously the computer problems associated with a clicking harddrive arrise. (Not being recognized, blue screen, getting ready to kick the dust) So within the past week and a half, I've lost my mobo and 2 completely different unrelated drives.
Would this have anything to do with my PSU? Thats pretty much the only thing not Brand new. Could a PSU thats gone bad cause my harddrives to click? Or is it just a string of unlucky coincidences? Or am I stupid and it's something else?

Normally when a HDD starts clicking .... it's the click of death.

It's not impossible that your PSU is on the blink too, but I would put it more down to unlucky coincidence.

id just like to say that i have a" few spare hard drives " as i think most do.
these drives are ones that are unreliable or have let me down in the past so id ask ure m8 same question why was it "spare" ?
how old was your old m/b m8 ?you didnt say? presume it took ide drives only from wot u have said
have had psu fail on me but was from known good co and caused no probs with other components
but if is a generic psu it could burn out all your parts m8 before failling as it did for a m8 of mine comp;etly fried everything he had and he thought he got a 650w psu below cost price
