E6750 / ASUS P5K and 8600GT Overclocking Test

Right so I've been messing around with my new kit, here's some info.

Stock

CPU - 2.66ghz, 333mhz FSB, 1.31v.

GFX - 540mhz core clock, 1188mhz shader clock, 1400mhz memory clock.

RAM - 4-4-4-12, 800mhz, 2.1v.

Overclocked

CPU - 3.8ghz, 475mhz FSB, 1.55v.

GFX - 600mhz core clock, 1320mhz shader clock, 1900mhz memory clock.

RAM - 5-5-5-18, 950mhz, 2.3v.

It's stable to a point, with only the GFX overclock it is 100% stable.

But with the CPU overclock it gets nearly to the end of 3dmark, cpumark runs fine.

Temps under load are 47c system and 45c CPU so they are fine I think.

Just unsure about upping the voltage any more, however the 1.55v drops to 1.53v under load so maybe up one notch might sort that droop.

This is all on stock cooling too, including the GFX card. After some reading online 3.8mhz hasn't been done on stock yet I think.

Is going higher voltage going to melt my CPU?

I'd be worred about using the 1.55v to be honest fella.

For benchmarking maybe, but not for 24/7 use. I'd keep it on or below 1.5v max for general use.

You might bench at a higher voltage but I wouldn't recommend it, not on air anyway.

Forget the temps in this instance, they've nothing to do with it.

I'd be happy with 3.8 if I was you. It's a job well done.

*Edit* yeah, your temps are fine, anything below 60c is ok.

Think it's best to drop it to 3.6ghz and get the voltage down then.

I doubt it'll run games as it is or is benchmarking an over test?

If you're going to run the cpu oc'd on a regular basis then yup, definately drop the voltage.

I'd be looking at around 1.4-1.45v max (some headroom is always nice) and just go for the max oc you can achieve using that voltage.

3.6 is fine, benches sweet @ 1.5v, will try dropping the volts lower.

I reckon you'll see 3.4 at 1.4-1.45v.

Which ain't bad now is it.

I'd also be interested in the cpu score in 3dmark06 and cpumark when running at whatever oc you achieve fella.

I'm at 1.45v @ 3.6ghz. Stable.

At this speed I can also get the RAM down to 4-4-4-12 too.

It's a much less stressed OC.

I reckon I could get 4ghz if I wasn't bothered about melting anything.

3.8ghz is 11555 in cpumark mate.

I'll do some final scores tomorrow in all the tests.

3.6ghz is 11532 in cpumark, so not much point going further all for 22 points and risking the life of the kit.

None at all.

I am stuck at only 3.35 on E6600
Would like to mention that an overclock is not generally considered stable unless it can run Orthos for over 8 hours.

Yeah I'm chuffed, it's so much better than my old kit and I've leared so much over the last few days.

I will post some scores tomorrow after doing a proper test with orthos then.

Krlll whats your view on going over 1.5v?
