Hi guys, I'm attempting my first PC build. Appreciate some advice on choice of components. Looking to build a reasonable priced gaming m/c with potential to extend later. Current thinking is as follows: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Motherboard: Asus P5E Graphics: HIS HD 3870 512MB GDDR4 PCLe Memory: 2 x 1GB Corsair TWINX XMS2 8500 DDR2 EPP Hiper HPU-5K680 Type R 680w Modular power supply Antec P182 Case Other bits yet to decide (HDD etc.). Anyone see any compatability probs. Would I be better going for an AMD processor (and hence Motherboard) with my chosen Graphics Card? Although P5E supports CrossFire, the HIS Graphics card requires CrossFire-X so I probably can't double up in the future, but I don't anticipate needing to. Appreciate comments/concerns. Thanks in anticipation! The Doc

2 dvd writers would help. Sony ones can read and write both + and - forms of DVD r/w so are a good choice. I advise using Elixir ram, its great quality, comes in many speeds, is DDR2 and is about £12 per gb. i think microdirect.com stocks them. Cant see any incompatibility so far. just make sure you get the right HDD connections!

You might want to spend a little more on faster RAM with a processor like that. Get decent ram, such as the Patriot 2gb Extreme Performance package from yoyotech.co.uk or wherever stocks it near you. It'll set you back around £50, £100 for 4gb. It'll really unleash the potential of your PC as that's a storming processor and a really good motherboard.

i personally prefur AMD cause they are cheaper and they can produce more calculations a second, with these you can get more for your money ;) i have just priced up ur CPU, i found one for around £180, but look what u can get for a tenner less ;) AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core AM2 2.3GHz 4Mb L2 Cache Retail Boxed , in regards to a motherboard get one that does support more than enough ram for what u will need it for now, i made the mistake when i got mine, i have reached the limit at 2gig. :(, and when it comes to your harddrive a Sata is the way forward. i have a Nvidia Graphics card GT7950 512mb. with Sli which supports 2 cards running in synq with each other. hope this helps :D
