My other issue is a 3-pin on the mobo labelled PWR_FAN which I don't have connected... I have nothing to connect it to is this right?

Also CHA_FAN2 is not connected because the second fan in my chassis connected directly to the PSU power plugs (I think they'd wired it like that as a retail package, because the PSU came with chassis and so did that one fan) Surely this wouldn't cause it to not work?

Ok, sorry for multiple posts in a short space of time, but I'm working frantically at a supersonic pace here, I've been googling around a bit and it seems it's a VERY common problem, a lot of people have reccommended clearing the CMOS, so I'll try jumpering a reset and get back to you then.

Thanks fr the help so far guys!

Nope, Clearing CMOS didn't have any affect. And Carbon I can confirm that I used standoffs and both ATX's are connected - any other ideas?

No, that shouldn't be an issue. The fan pwr jacks on the MoBo enable you to use the BIOS settings to control fan speed and also to give you something to plug your fans into if the PSU doesn't have enough stuff. You DO have the fan over your CPU plugged in don't you (there should be a fan connection of the Mobo somewhere near the socket)? Not that this would affect your GFX card, but it would prevent an overheat issue with your chip later.

EDIT: Other than that, I have exhausted my meager supply of knowledge lol although I'm still gonna read to see what the problem is.

Yeah sure, it's plugged in and working, otherwise it would have completely melted all these times I've turned it on for 30secs to try it..

Thanks for trying anyway.. I'm thinking it must be Graphics related, or the Graphics circuit on mobo might be dodgy - but the fan on the GPU card is working.. so it's getting power at the very least..

Do you get any signs of life from it at all? Any lights? Fans spinning up?

Yeah yeah - as above all signs of life, everything works fine - I just don't get that "ok beep" (1 short beep) from the POS Test, but neither do I get any error beep, it just fails to acknoledge that all power on functions are correct.

Take the thing out of a case, put it on a cardboard box, PSU, one stick of RAM, video card, CPU, and relevant power connectors only (4/8 pin CPU, 24 pin ATX), hook it up to a monitor and try there. That'll help you narrow it down.

Usually these sort of things are a PSU fault, but if you're using the Sonata III you should have a fairly decent PSU.
