Default Found a computer today, need a bit of help...

Today I found a computer in a skip. I took it home and it works OK, but I just need some advice on a couple of things to do with it. Firstly, is there any way to get the original Windows 95 with no usb support or internet explorer ( the first release they did of it) to work with a USB PCI card? Like can I just get the setup files for the usb drivers off a later version of the 95 disc that does have USB support? Secondly is there any way I could possibly squeeze more mhz out of a Pentium 100 with a bog standard (absolutely tiny!) cooler? Finally would I be able to use a wireless internet card with such lowly hardware (Pentium 100mhz, 24mb ram, 800mb hd!) I know they work with a P2 233 32mb system running 98 but thats a different kettle of fish :p.

No to the USB unless you do some serious modifications which I doubt would work anyway because it is so old. I think they changed things a lot to incorporate USB support.

You may be able to overclock it but it won't improve things, it will still be an ancient computer.

And no to the wireless PC card because even if it did support it and you did find drivers (which would be impossible) then it would just be too slow. And what will you use to browse the internet with no IE??

I think this thing is just way to old to do anything. There was a reason why it was in the skip!

Which the motherboard won't support so just ditch the whole PC.

Again? No chance. Well, for all the good its doing me, and for the sore arm it gave me carrying it home on the bus, I at least have the satisfaction of knowing I saved it from the skip. And I have to disagree on a couple of those things. At the time that this OS without internet explorer came out, they had a very early version of MSN to browse the internet and that worked okay, so why not with IE? (which has been installed on it later by the way) the only problem is getting it to run the wireless card software at a decent speed. I might just give it a clean install of 98se or 95 with IE built in and USB support to fix the USB problem which I dont despeately need anyway. Oh and it does NOT belong in a skip. I like it because when I was like 5 and windows 95 was new we used to have a computer that said 'it's now safe to turn off your computer' when you switched it off. This one does the same thing!!!

I agree that it brings back memories! I remember those days too!

But I personally think that the thing is just too old to be productive anymore. But you may prove me wrong

I think it may just about still have some use left in it especially since I have a laptop made sometime in 1987 (yes '87 - thats old!) which I still use sometims for games and stuff! I personally don't think people should throw working laptops/computers into skips because they can be donated either to a nostalgic idiot like me or one of those really good websites which provides basic computer equipment for the underpriveleged.

Too true.
If even one person can get use out of them then keep them running.
Ive pulled PCs out of skips before and gotten parts out of them and even found a Pentium 3 once that I cleaned up and sold for €150.lol
